About This Motorbike Paint

We prepare Standard Motorcycle Paint motorcycle paint to order using the colour code you provide. The range includes 400ml 1K base-coat and 2K direct-gloss aerosols, three sizes of 1K tester pot and a 20ml 1K touch-up pen, so you can choose an amount that makes sense for the repair.

If you are repairing a very small chip or scratch, you may only need a touch-up pen. A tester pot gives you more paint for small repairs or for checking the colour before ordering a larger quantity. Aerosols are intended for jobs where the paint needs to be applied over a wider area.

Before painting, wash and degrease the area carefully and make sure any corrosion, damaged coating or loose paint has been dealt with. The surface should be prepared for the coating being applied rather than simply spraying new paint over the existing finish. Where bare material is exposed, use an appropriate primer for that substrate where required.

If you choose the 1K aerosol, it is a colour base coat and will generally need clear lacquer to complete the finish. The 2K aerosol is supplied as direct gloss and develops its gloss as part of the coating itself. Tester pots and touch-up pens on this page are supplied as 1K products.

Some motorcycle paint codes have more than one variant or use a multi-stage colour system. If the information supplied with your order indicates that an additional coat or further colour information is needed, we will contact you before preparing the paint.

Before Applying Your Paint

Check that the colour is suitable before applying it to the final visible area. We recommend carrying out a test application first and allowing it to dry so you can assess the colour and finish before continuing with the repair.

Some motorcycle colours use more than one coating stage or have alternative formulations under the same basic colour reference. If we need additional information about the code supplied with your order, we will contact you before the paint is prepared.

Primer is not automatically required over every sound existing paint finish. However, bare metal, filler, repaired areas and other exposed substrates may require a suitable primer before the colour coat is applied.

Drying Times

Approximately 20–30 minutes touch dry under suitable conditions. Drying time can vary with temperature, film thickness, ventilation and the product being applied. Refer to the product instructions before recoating or handling.

Directions for Aerosol Use

  1. Make sure the area to be painted is clean, dry and properly prepared.
  2. Mask surrounding areas that need to be protected from overspray.
  3. Shake the aerosol thoroughly for approximately two minutes before use, and continue to shake it periodically during application.
  4. Carry out a test spray and colour check before applying paint to the final visible area.
  5. Hold the aerosol approximately 20–30 cm from the surface, unless the instructions supplied with the product specify otherwise.
  6. Apply controlled, overlapping passes rather than trying to achieve full coverage with one heavy coat.
  7. Allow appropriate flash-off time between coats and follow the product instructions for subsequent coats or lacquer.
  8. After use, follow the aerosol instructions for clearing the spray nozzle and storing the product safely.
  9. Never point the aerosol towards yourself or another person.
  10. Always read the label and relevant Safety Data Sheet before use, particularly when using 2K products.
